The Blantyre Islamic Mission (BIM) was established in 1981 using funding secured from Saudi Arabian donors who attended the 3rd Southern Africa Islamic Youth Conference hosted in Malawi. It stands as one of the most important legacies of Chairman Sheikh Twaibu Hussein Mwarabu's 22-year reign.
BIM operates a primary school, secondary school, mosque, and community resource centre. It has educated thousands of Muslim students from Blantyre and surrounding districts over more than four decades.
