The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), working through the Darussunah Foundation, has donated MK5 million towards the completion of Simayiwa Clinic in Salima District — demonstrating the association's commitment to accessible healthcare for all Malawians, regardless of faith.
MAM National Chairman Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad personally handed over the cheque at the construction site. Speaking at the handover, he said the donation reflects MAM's conviction that healthy communities are the foundation of national development.
"It is not only about money that one can contribute towards the country's development, but also being patriotic by offering prayers for the country to head in the right direction. We believe in assisting the health sector whenever we have an opportunity — because healthy people are capable of contributing towards the development of the country," said Sheikh Muhammad.
The clinic project had stalled due to funding constraints. The MK5 million contribution is expected to unlock the remaining construction work and enable the facility to begin serving patients. Once completed, Simayiwa Clinic will provide primary healthcare including maternal and child health services to thousands of households in rural Salima.
MAM was approached by the local constituency representative for assistance and responded through the Darussunah Foundation — a mechanism MAM uses to channel donor and community contributions into urgent social projects.
This donation forms part of MAM's broader healthcare portfolio, which includes the Bilal Clinic in Chiradzulu, periodic mobile health campaigns, and partnerships with international health organisations.
